Mixed C&D Debris Recycling Area

This GreenWaste facility processes an extensive amount of mixed debris and debris boxes daily through a 140-foot long C&D sorting conveyor system. The system is utilized to remove a variety of materials; up to 16 products from the typical mixed waste stream.

The sorting conveyor system, which includes elevated work-stations, disc-screens and magnets is located above storage bunkers that hold recovered materials. When the storage bunkers become full, the materials are routed for additional on-site processing, or loaded and hauled to approved recyclers. Residual materials are routed to a landfill for disposal.

The sorting system is capable of sorting 45 tons per hour with an average diversion rate of 82%. We are the only 3rd party certified recycling facility in Sacramento. The diversion rate and tons per hour vary depending upon the type of materials sorted.

Materials Not Accepted

It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that only acceptable wastes are delivered at the Florin Perkins Public Disposal Site. The following is a partial list of wastes, which are prohibited for disposal. In addition, other wastes may be deemed unacceptable at the owner or operator’s discretion. If unacceptable wastes are detected and rejected for disposal, the customer retains responsibility for the wastes, and if unacceptable wastes are disposed of, the customer is liable for the legal disposal and will be subject to prosecution and termination of disposal services. RCI – Third Party Certification

This C&D Recycling facility is the first in Sacramento and the second in California to receive third-party certification of its recycling rates from the Recycling Certification Institute (RCI). The RCI uses independent third-party evaluators to verify the accuracy and reliability of the recovery/recycling rates reported. Providing a rigorous set of protocols, guidelines, and tools to professionally review and certify the recovery/recycling reports of participating C&D recyclers, the Institute is intended to increase certainty and build confidence in the C&D recycling marketplace on the part of project owners, architects, the environmental community, municipalities and the public.

Recycling rates for our operation is listed in the table below. Recycling rates are based on the total tons of incoming materials/the total tons of waste landfilled. A separate calculation shows the recycling rate, less alternative daily cover (ADC).

To view our current diversion rates, please visit the Recycling Certification Institute for our updated diversion numbers.

If any of your weight tags indicates that the commodity type is trash, no recycling credit is given to this load. More information pertaining to the RCI can be found at https://www.recyclingcertification.org/certified-facilities/

LEED® and Build It Green

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) and Build It Green are green building rating systems encouraging and accelerating global adoption of sustainable green building and developmental practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria. The LEED rating system, for example, is divided into 5 main Credit Categories. “Materials and Resources” being one, has credits that can be earned by executing the most sustainable waste removal and materials recovery practices during a LEED construction project.

Florin Perkins can provide a confirmation letter, to our customers, stating that materials transported to our facility were recycled and/or reused in conjunction with the requirements of LEED® and Build it Green, although third-party certification is still required. The Florin Perkins recycling rate is currently averaging 82% (April 2015). This recycling rate is determined by the total tons of incoming materials divided by the total tons of wastes disposed.

If more detailed information is needed, the gate tags and/or invoices can be used to determine a more refined diversion rate based on the recycling rate of each material type processed at the facilities.
